Recently my husband and I took a Sunday afternoon walk in the Church Hill area of Richmond. Our place is close by and there are several scenic walks you can enjoy. We had a yummy brunch at the River City Diner and then we took off up the hill. The area is not called Church Hill by chance. Walking up many of the streets is reminiscent of San Francisco. The views of downtown Richmond and the canal are lovely.
There is a mix of architectural styles and periods. Many homes date to the early 1800's. There are free standing single family dwellings, duplexes and row houses. The condition of the homes varies from street to street but many are restored to pristine condition. The sidewalks are brick and mature trees line the streets.
Lots of gingerbread on these homes. |
